Elk Falls Hickory flooring is manufactured from genuine North American Appalachian Hickory. It is an excellent medium density hardwood ideally suited for applications where strength and durability are important.
Key Features
Elk Falls Hickory is engineered to exacting standards using environmentally certified resources. It has excellent hardness and wear resistance along with a wear layer that can be refurbished over time.
Hard-Wearing Durability
Elk Falls Hickory performs extremely well in high-traffic areas thanks to its high Janka hardness rating of 9.5kN. This signifies excellent resistance to denting and scratching from everyday use.
Range of Aesthetic Options
The flooring is available in a variety of natural colour tones as well as stained decors. This allows homeowners to suit both traditional and contemporary interior motifs. Its variable grain pattern and texture also adds charming character.
Technical Specifications
Elk Falls Hickory comes in 189mm widths, 14mm thickness with a 2mm solid hickory wear layer. It has a rustic grade and micro-beveled edges with a Unilin click installation system.
Grade Levels
Elk Falls Hickory flooring is available in grades A, B, C and D. The Rustic grade contains knots and split defects that have been filled and patched, allowing for other rustic character details.
Surface Finish
The floors have a pre-finished, European polyurethane (PU) matte coating applied. Below this, the planks receive a light wire brushing that brings out the wood's natural tonality and grain while achieving a softly worn appearance.
Installation & Accessories
Elk Falls Hickory is suitable for installation with in-slab hydronic heating only. Matching stair nosings and trims are available.
Sustainability
Preference Floors uses sustainable, non-toxic materials from beginning to end of the manufacturing process.
Responsible Sourcing
Elk Falls Hickory sources wood solely from sustainably managed North American forests, certified by the FSC and PEFC schemes. This ensures responsible environmental and social standards are followed from seedling to harvest.
Indoor Air Quality
Strict controls are in place to minimize VOC emissions during manufacturing. Independent testing shows Elk Falls Hickory meets—and often exceeds—the stringent World Health Organization guidelines for indoor pollutants, contributing to a healthy indoor environment.
Installation & Care
Planks should acclimate in the room for 1-2 weeks before installation. Regular vacuuming and occasional mopping helps keep the floor looking fresh. Over time, surface scratching can be refurbished by recoat or sand and recoat.
